Hold up wait a Damn MinUte!
She‘s Gotta Have It, changed my whole life around. One day one of my boyfriends called me and said he had just saw this show on accident and the girl Nola was me... lol
Hr knee I didn’t watch TV so I was already months behind in the season 1 of this amazing show. So I sat down to watch episode one, and I was like 😱. It is me! Lol
I had been unknowingly living what was called a “Nola Darling“ lifestyle for months lol.
I waited and waited for the next season, but watched the first over and over.
Then May 24th it was time!
For fans of Nola Darling waiting I felt your pain too.
A seriously sexy comedy and rousing celebration of female empowerment, She’s Gotta Have It Season 2 offers a timely and topical portrait of rising talents, with free-spirited artist Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise) at the center. Struggling with newfound success this season, against a backdrop of black art and culture, Nola must decide if she will remain true to her creative ideals or give in to the corporate world.
Her journey of self-discovery helps transform the lives of those around her, including friend and sometimes lover Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos), who sets out to pursue his true passion of music as well as her inner circle of Opal (Ilfenesh Hadera), Greer Childs (Cleo Anthony), Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent), Clorinda Bradford (Margot Bingham), Shemekka Epps (Chyna Layne) and Winnie Win (Fat Joe). Their journey expands to new destinations this season beyond their home base of Fort Greene, the vibrant Brooklyn enclave, that continues to evolve and change as gentrification remakes the neighborhood.
But then all things took a horrific turn!
On Wednesday, it was announced that Netflix has decided to cancel Spike Lee’s series “She’s Gotta Have It,” which is an adaption of his classic 1986 film.
According to Variety, although the show was canceled by the popular streaming service, Spike Lee is reportedly expected to shop the series to other platforms. The show’s cancellation comes after the second season premiered back in May.
Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer at Netflix, said, “Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ to Netflix. While this is our last season, we’re very proud that it will be on our service for years to come and excited to be working with Spike on his upcoming Netflix film ‘Da 5 Bloods.’”
Dewanda Wise, who starred as Nola Darling, the star of the series, took to social media after the news about the show’s cancellation broke. She said:
“Once you start to speak, people will yell at you. They will interrupt you, put you down and suggest it’s personal. And the world won’t end. And the speaking will get easier and easier. And you will find you have fallen in love with your own vision, which you may never have realized you had. And you will lose some friends and lovers, and realize you don’t miss them. And new ones will find you and cherish you. And you will still flirt and paint your nails, dress up and party, because, as I think Emma Goldman said, “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution.” And at last, you’ll know with surpassing certainty that only one thing is more frightening than speaking your truth. And that is not speaking.” #AudreLorde Saying “Until” to Nola Darling today.”
Moguls how does this make you all feel?
